Use games to stimulate
memory: start here, with
this simple crossword.
Using Games to Stimulate
Memory Recall
and Write Better Memoirs--
A Crossword Puzzle of Memories
The first of the series of using games to
stimulate our memory begins with this simple
crossword.

1.  Fill in the crossword using the clues.

2.  Choose one word from the completed puzzle
and write down your earliest associations with
that word.

3.  Write as much as you can, and be sure to use
the descriptive sensory details we started in
Memoir Writing for Our Elders.  Include any
sights, sounds, colors, textures, smells you can
recall.

4.  Then, add your opinions and/or criticisms.
That is, move beyond the what to the so what?
For example, if you choose "pet" for your memory
word, discuss why you felt the way you did about
the pet.  Note your attitude, your family's
attitude, your family's way of training and
disciplining the pet.

Describe the positive or negative beliefs, actions,
feelings...so you move beyond the mere
description, and so you make the piece more
interesting!
How to use the crossword puzzle:

1.When you click on the chess game pieces
below, you will be taken to a separate
window.

2.Click on a space in the puzzle: a clue will
appear to the right of the crossword puzzle.

3.Fill in the spaces.
